| DMX Accessories Overview | |||||
|
The flexibility of the DMX protocol allows a wide variety of dimmers, luminaires and other devices to be controlled from the lighting desk. Various accessories are available to assist with the testing and distribution of DMX signals, and to enable a range of non DMX equipment to be adapted for use with DMX controls. |

DMX Splitters are used to split a single DMX cable into two or more DMX cables each carrying the same DMX signal. Splitters can improve awkward cable layouts in large installations and usually also boost the DMX signal to compensate for long cable runs. Many models also provide optical isolation between each of the output circuits so a fault on one leg of the DMX system is prevented from affecting the entire DMX system. For this reason we always recommend the use of DMX splitters on all except the smallest of theatrical installations. |

DMX Receivers are used to convert digital DMX data into parallel analogue signals to enable an analogue dimmer pack to be DMX controlled. DMX Receivers can enable older dimmer analogue packs to be controlled from a modern DMX console. |
|||||
Protocol Converters are used to convert digital DMX data into a different type (protocol) of digital data such as Theatrelight Serial data. Protocol converters can enable older dimmer packs with proprietary data protocols to be controlled from a modern DMX console. |
